A compact salt lamp cut from natural Himalayan rock salt mined at Khewra in Punjab, Pakistan, lit by an energy-efficient LED and powered over USB.

Where it works

This is one of the smaller lamps in the range, which makes it a desk or nightstand piece rather than something that lights a room. It runs from a laptop port, a power bank, or a wall adapter, so it travels well and suits an office desk where a mains lamp would mean another cable to the floor.

Looking after it

Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it. Never rinse it. Keep it on a coaster if it sits on wood, and keep it clear of laptops and keyboards, because salt residue and electronics do not mix.

Good to know

This is decorative lighting. Salt lamps have been tested for air purification and negative ion output and do not produce meaningful amounts of either, so we describe it as what it is: a small warm light cut from rock salt.

Salt draws moisture from humid air and the surface may feel damp in a humid room. Normal for salt, not a fault. LED lamps run cool and dry themselves less than heated lamps do.
